I will let the ammo question to more seasoned hands on this board, I am sure someone will be along eventually. I don't know if you have a hinged floorplate that opens or not, a picture might be of help evaluating this. Dummy rounds are good for testing the action. It is necessary to push it down a bit when closing the bolt, and it will only occur when the magazine is empty. The answer to 'When pulling the bolt all the way to the rear the magazine ramp comes up and then blocks the bolt from closing.' is that this is quite normal. Being this rifle wasn't actually made for 30-06, is there any ammo I should avoid? Is any off the shelf -06 gonna fly or will I need low pressure loads? I don't reload, I plan on it once I get situated somewhere with a work space, but for now I stick to factory and I don't trust others reloads, after some less than enjoyable past experiences. Is there some kind of secret? I've pried on the little release lever with a flat head, still nothing. I know you can open the floor plate on the magazine, however I've tried for about 10 minutes to get it off and it won't budge. The stock looks similar to the lightweight Model 70's(It is also extremely light, almost as light as my. Typically I find it a blasphemous act, but this one is really quite pleasing. Whoever sporterized it did a very nice job. Today I went to pick up a gun, and trade one in I had and found a really nice, sporterized, Argentine 1909, in 30-06. I've always wanted a Mauser type rifle, looked high and low for a German model, but never could find one for a reasonable deal. I'm hoping to get some info on a rifle I got today. I'm sorta new here, my first time posting beyond the classifieds, so I apologize if I ramble.
